How to Brand Yourself

Personal branding is important for professional development. Similar to business development the first stage in growing a company is to establish a brand. Once this brand is established you can effortlessly promote yourself through a common theme. Without branding it will be hard to streamline and focus your development. I have made a list of questions to ask yourself so that you can better define your goals and identity.

To start with you must first identify the basics

  • What are you an expert of?
  • What are you passionate about?
  • What are your values?
  • What is your vision and purpose?

Now those are some pretty big questions! When faced with them people often get Peter Pan syndrome and run away to Neverland. But if you are still reading this great job! The desire for betterment is the first step into achieving your goals. Instead of continuing to read though, let’s take a second to sit down and write out the answers. Yes, write them out. Writing out goals solidifies your intent. I myself am a big believer in journaling. In order to be successful in the art of journaling it’s important to find a journal that speaks to you. I love journals with bold covers from my local book shop.

The next step is to figure out how you would like those basics represented. This next part is simple. In your new journal or on a scratch piece of paper write out each one that represents your image (or the image you wish to project).

  • Personable or Professional
  • Friendly or Corporate
  • Careful Thinking or Spontaneous
  • Modern or Classic
  • Cutting Edge or Established
  • Serious or Fun
  • Accessible to All or Upscale

From this understanding you can then put together a plan of how you can portray all of these things. Remember everything you do from the moment you wake up, to the moment you go to bed reflects on your brand. From the way you
